After seeing Bella, who is three years her senior, compete in a competition, Lola decided to try volleyball and join a club team in Carmel, Indiana, her hometown north of Indianapolis.

So Schumacher came in with his basketball shorts, a Stephen Curry shirt, and knee protectors and thought, “Let’s try it,” Schumacher explained.As a freshman, she played mid-blocker for the team before switching to setter the following year.

She joined the Munciana Volleyball Club the next year and began playing as a scavenger/defender.“I recall the first day she came in,” Lingenfelter recalled. “She was cheerful, she had a great smile, and she was full of energy.”
